Small Bore: 22LR There are classifications for almost any type of handgun, including revolvers, autos, single-shots, Unlimited.

Big Bore: Bottle-neck and straight wall centerfire cartridges may be used for competition.  Single shot Contenders are popular, as are Ruger Super Blackhawk revolvers.  .44mag and 7mm variations are very popular.   .357 is a good round to start off with to get the hang of the sport but are light for the rams.  The ammo must NOT damage the hardened steel targets or the shooter will get get to replace them.  .45-70's are not allowed.  The match director will have final discretion over ammunition allowed and firearms classification.

Usual number of rounds needed:  40 rounds per match.  (10 rounds per animal type, fired 5 rounds each in 2.5 minutes.)  No sighter targets available.

Other equipment needed (in addition to eye and ear protection):  Spotting scope recommended with a spotter (if possible).  Elbow pads for big bore handguns.  A blast shield leg protector is required for all Creedmore shooting with a handgun.

Targets:  Metallic silhouettes:

bulletSmall Bore:  Chickens at 25m, pigs at 50m, turkeys at 75m, and rams at 100m.
bulletLarge Bore:  Chickens at 50m, pigs at 100m, turkeys at 150m, and rams at 200m.

Format:  Sanctioned IHMSA match rules and classifications.  The IHMSA rule book is recommended (see website at www.IHMSA.org).  Non-IHMSA members are welcome but will need to get classified in their first match, as with any shooter competing in a new category.  There are generally 5-6 classes in each category--plenty to make it competitive.  Categories include:

bulletProduction categories: production, revolver, & standing.
bulletUnlimited categories: unlimited, unlimited standing, unlimited any-sights.

The shooter has 2.5 minutes to fire 1 shot at each of 5 identical silhouette targets.  Eight legs of 5 targets each will be shot in the course of the match. 

Prizes:  Bragging rights.
